My first blog post.

What did I do today?

  1. Got this blog up and running using Jekyll and github actions.
  2. Set up RAID 1 and RAID 0 on my r320.
  3. Got Beorg working with my org-mode instance.
  4. Replaced my car battery.
  5. Bought some presents for myself.

The Blog

I am making a blog to document the world in which I live. Expect a bunch of posts about Emacs, k3s, self hosting, politics and various other topics. This site is run on jekyll. I thought about a mastodon micro-blog, but it's a lot more work than jekyll in this moment. My aim is to host my own cloud using kubernetes. It's taken 3 years to finally get my head around the intricacies but this time around I've groked it enough that I want to take notes while I ship things. This blog is that first step.

The r320

I bought an r320 on reddit a while back. It's noisy, and I didn't know what to do with it. Having recently upgraded the hard drives in my NAS, the r320 now had 4 cool "new" drives. The OS is going to be Security Onion. It's on a 1TB volume with RAID 1. The other volume is 5TB RAID 0 for packet ingestion. I have no idea how to get this working, but at least the hardware is set up.

Beorg

Beorg is my new favorite thing. It let's me utilize Get things done (GTD) utilizing emacs but powered by my phone.

Personal

I did replace the car battery today. When I went in I was shocked by how much more cost from down the street. Rather than inquiring about it, I simply paid the extra money. It might have been cheaper at the other store because I was looking at the wrong one. That's what I'm going to tell myself.
